About the Artist

Ramon Echegaray has been on the Brazilian and Latin scene since 1980. 

He performed extensively with New Yorkís first power samba band ìPe De Boiî under the leadership of Guilherme Franco.  Among many other performances, Pe de Boi inaugurated and was the house band at Sounds of Brazil (SOBís) for many years, opened for Rod Stewart at Madison Square Garden, appeared with the Paul Winter Consort for many years at St. John the Divine, appeared at Central Parksí Summer Stage series and in ìMarried to the Mobî. 

Heís also worked extensively for Samba Novo, appearing annually at Stingís Rainforest Benefit at Tavern on the Green, the Copacabana,  the Palladium and many other venues.   

When accompanying Brazilian virtuoso guitarist Tiberio Nascimento and flautist Sharon Levine he has appeared at Carnegie Hall, the Metropolitan Museum, The Guggenheim, the Museum of Natural History, Chattaqua and other venues.  

Other bands heís played with are Sambata with Ricardo Torres,  Andres Laprida, Ze Carioca, A Banda, Valtinho Anastacio and the Citron Brothers.   Heís  also worked with Ruben Rada, Hugo Fattoruso, David Kikovsky, Aloisio Aguilar, Ciro Baptista, Kimson Plautt, Leo Traversa, Hector Martinon, Aron Hick, Cucho Martinez, Eddie Martinez and many more

In 1994 he began to lead his own band ALMA y VIDA, a band that featured and introduced to North American audiences ìCandombeî music from his native country Uruguay .  This resulted in  the production of the CD CANDOMBE IN NEW YORK (which can be purchased at CDbaby.com)
